Password generator
Strong passwords and passphrases – generated in your browser.
Strength: 130 bits – very strong
A strong password only helps if you can find it again.

Randomness beats creativity. People choose predictably: names, years, an exclamation mark at the end. Attackers try exactly these patterns first. A generator picks every character with equal probability.
Length matters more than symbols. Every additional character multiplies the number of possibilities. The strength indicator expresses this in bits: length times the base-2 logarithm of the character set.
A different password for every account. When a service is breached, attackers try the stolen credentials on other services. One password per account limits the damage – and that is what password managers are for.
Frequently asked questions
Is my generated password sent anywhere?
No. The generator only runs in your browser using its random source. The password is neither sent to us nor stored. If you reload the page, it is gone.
How long should a password be?
For accounts you do not need to remember, 16 to 20 random characters are a good choice. Randomness is what matters: a long random password is stronger than a short one with many symbols.
Password or passphrase?
A passphrase of several random words is easier to remember and type – good for a master password or your computer login. For everything a password manager fills in, random characters are more convenient.
What does strength in bits mean?
It shows how many equally likely possibilities the chosen setting has – each bit doubles them. The number describes the setting, not the individual result, and only holds as long as the password really stays random.
Where do I keep the passwords?
Ideally in a password manager, so you can use a different password for every account. SafeDoc Passwords is available as a beta – with a free basic tier in every SafeDoc account.
